Function and Purpose
A component is the core of a Joomla site. It generates the main output area of a page and often provides its own administration interface in the backend. Well-known core components include com_content for articles, com_contact for contacts, and com_users for user management.
Typical Core Components
- Articles (com_content): Management and display of articles.
- Users (com_users): User management, registration, and login.
- Contacts (com_contact): Provides contact forms and contact information.
- Banners (com_banners): Management of advertising banners.
Important Notes
- Updatability: You can update components via the Joomla update.
- Third‑party components: Many additional features are provided as standalone components (e.g. shops, forums).
- Menu link: To display a component in the frontend, you need a corresponding menu item.
