Function and Purpose
Through the Global Configuration (found under System → Configuration) you set overarching options for your Joomla installation. These values act as defaults for the whole site but can be overridden in individual components.
Key Configuration Areas
- Site: Site name, offline mode, default editor.
- System: Cache settings, session lifetime, debug mode.
- Server: Time zone, email settings, FTP.
- Permissions: Default rights for user groups.
- Filters: Define which HTML tags are allowed for specific groups.
Important Notes
- Backups: Back up your settings before making major changes.
- SEO: Enable search-engine-friendly URLs and URL rewriting.
- Error Reporting: Turn on debugging only temporarily, as it can expose sensitive information.
