Global Configuration

The Global Configuration is the central settings area in Joomla. Here you define fundamental parameters like site name, metadata, caching, user permissions and server settings.

  • Function and Purpose

Through the Global Configuration (found under System → Configuration) you set overarching options for your Joomla installation. These values act as defaults for the whole site but can be overridden in individual components.

    Key Configuration Areas

    • Site: Site name, offline mode, default editor.
    • System: Cache settings, session lifetime, debug mode.
    • Server: Time zone, email settings, FTP.
    • Permissions: Default rights for user groups.
    • Filters: Define which HTML tags are allowed for specific groups.

    Important Notes

    • Backups: Back up your settings before making major changes.
    • SEO: Enable search-engine-friendly URLs and URL rewriting.
    • Error Reporting: Turn on debugging only temporarily, as it can expose sensitive information.
