Function and Purpose
Access levels define which user groups are allowed to see specific content, modules or menu items. Joomla provides three default levels: Public, Registered and Special. You can create as many custom levels as you need.
Configuration
- Create: Add new levels in the backend under Users → Access Levels.
- Group assignment: Assign the groups that should get access to a level.
- Assignment: Assign an access level to articles, modules or menus to restrict them to certain users.
Important Notes
- Hierarchy: Higher levels can see content of lower levels, but not vice versa.
- Usability: Be careful not to create too many levels to keep things manageable.
- Fine control: Combined with access rights (ACL) you can achieve precise control.
