Frontend

The frontend is the publicly accessible area of a Joomla website. Here visitors see content, navigate through menus, and — depending on their user group — can create or edit content.

  • Function and Purpose

Your site presents itself to visitors in the frontend. Layout and style are determined by templates, and modules provide additional information. With the appropriate permissions, registered users can log in and edit or create articles directly from the frontend.

    Frontend vs. Backend

    • Frontend: Public-facing, user-oriented, focused on presentation and interaction.
    • Backend: Administrative area for management — see the backend.

    Important Notes

    • Access control: Use access levels to define which content is public or restricted to logged-in users.
    • Usability: Structure menus logically to ensure good user experience.
    • Frontend editing: Enable the “Frontend Editing” option so authors can work directly in the frontend.
